Deputy Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Chicago, IL (Hybrid)
Position Summary
The Deputy Director reports to the Executive Director and oversees the day-to-day clinical, operational, and administrative functions of the Illinois Lawyers' Assistance Program (ILAP). This position provides leadership to the clinical team, ensures the delivery of high-quality services, supports organizational operations, and advances ILAP's mission of serving Illinois lawyers, judges, law students, experiencing mental health, substance use, or other well-being challenges.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Organizational Management
- Support the Executive Director in implementing strategic initiatives.
- Assist with organizational planning and goal setting.
- Foster a collaborative and mission-driven culture.
- Supervise administrative operations.
- Participate in Board meetings as requested by the Executive Director.
2. Clinical Leadership
- Provide leadership and oversight for all clinical services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based care.
- Consult with Executive Director about appropriate service populations, appropriate level of care, and help determine whether new clients are better served internally or externally based on level of need.
- Supervise, mentor, and support clinicians through regular clinical consultation and case review.
- Assign client cases after consultation with Executive Director based on clinical complexity, clinician expertise, and workload
- Provide guidance and support to clinicians managing high-risk or complex client situations.
- Ensure clinical documentation, treatment planning, and case management meet professional standards.
- Partner with clinicians to develop intervention strategies and monitor client progress.
- Maintain knowledge of evidenced based practices related to substance use disorders, well-being, and recovery support.
·3. Direct Client Services
- Work with the Executive Director to triage client calls and conduct assessments.
- Maintain and develop statewide referral sources and referral recommendations.
- Coordinate clinical assessment of needs, risk, and appropriate clinical strategies and needs
- Provide short-term counseling.
- Provide regular clinical updates to Executive Director related to managing complex cases.
- Coordinate support groups and supervise appropriate clinical documentation.
4. Operations & Administration
- Monitor and develop organizational metrics by maintaining program data, analyzing outcomes, and preparing reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors to support strategic planning and organizational decision-making.
- Manage relationships with IT vendors to support the organization's technology infrastructure, troubleshoot system issues, and coordinate technology enhancements.
- Oversee technology and information systems to support efficient and effective operations.
- Help develop. Implement, and continuously improve operational policies and procedures, and supporting metrics, per Board of Director mandates.
5. Education & Outreach
- Help in the creation of new CLE programs and occasionally provide educational articles for the website or local or statewide bar magazines.
- Deliver educational presentations to legal community, as determined by Executive Director.
- Help build and maintain relationships with bar associations.
- Help support ILAP’s outreach initiatives.
- Continue to educate, expand, and monitor all LAP locals throughout the state.
6. Quality Improvement & Data Collection and Monitoring
- Develop and administer client satisfaction and outcome measurement surveys.
- Monitor client progress and evaluate treatment outcomes using established quality indicators.
- Analyze outcome data to identify trends, measure program effectiveness, and recommend improvements.
- Track client engagement, recovery outcomes, and referral success.
- Prepare reports for leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders demonstrating program effectiveness.
- Oversight of referral selection process, referral satisfaction, and data gathering
Qualifications
Required
- Master’s degree in counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related behavioral health field
- Current Illinois clinical license (LCPC, LCSW, PsyD, PhD, or equivalent)
- Minimum seven (7) years’ clinical experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience managing behavioral health programs.
- Strong leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, develop organizational metrics, and prepare reports to support leadership decision-making.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency with technology, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred
- Experience managing or supervising an intensive outpatient (IOP), partial hospitalization (PHP), residential treatment, or comparable behavioral health program.
- Experience working with attorneys, judges, law students, or other professionals in high-accountability careers.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or working with professionals or the legal community a bonus.
