JOB TITLE: ADDICTION COUNSELOR
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF CLINICAL SERVICES
CLASSIFICATION: NON-EXEMPT
COMPENSATION: $21.75- $26.65
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the delivery of assessments/intakes, individual counseling, group counseling, case management and related services to outpatient and intensive outpatient individuals with drug/alcohol problems. The primary job responsibility refers to the medication assisted recovery patients. (Methadone)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs comprehensive alcohol and/or drug assessments for potential patients.
- Maintains a patient caseload.
- Evaluates patient needs and develops individualized treatment plans that consist of measurable and attainable treatment goals.
- Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plan as needed to maximize successful patient outcomes.
- Provides individual and group counseling sessions to assigned patients on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Maintains accurate and thorough clinical records reflecting services provided to patients.
- Provides outreach and consultation, prevention and treatment services as indicated by contracts and program needs.
- Engages in appropriate discharge and aftercare planning with patients.
- Monitors urine drops (same sex) as scheduled.
- Maintains documentation in a timely, thorough and accurate manner.
- Attends all staff meetings and participates in other program or agency meetings as requested.
- Participates in in-service, extramural training and/or continuing education as requested.
- Identifies and responds to high-risk events/behaviors that could jeopardize clients and/or staff.
- Performs other duties as required or requested by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Knowledge of therapeutic methods, principles and practices.
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.
- Skills in planning, developing and implementing individualized, therapeutic treatment plans.
- Ability to provide sincere interest necessary to work with the patient population as well as exhibiting caring and respectful attitudes toward patient.
- Ability to assume responsibility and follow directions.
- Basic computer skills.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred not required.
EXPERIENCE:
One year full time experience providing substance abuse treatment
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
CADC is required.

All full-time employees are eligible for insurance on the first of the month after 30 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental and 401K participation. We also offer an accrual of 4 weeks of paid time off per year. There is an annual discretionary bonus given as well after completing 1 year of service. Remedies provides critical and often times lifesaving services to adults struggling with addiction and to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking and their children or vulnerable family members. Remedies works to end the cycle of abuse, exploitation and addiction through education, support, and community involvement.
We provide the only domestic violence shelter in Winnebago and Boone counties. Each year Remedies provides a variety of domestic violence program services to approximately 2,000 adult and child survivors of domestic violence, approximately 25% of which are children. Remedies substance abuse programs serve an additional 2,000 adults each year. We provide a safe, supportive environment and critical, client-centered services designed to promote the healing of individuals and families. With the recent launch of our human trafficking program, Remedies will be able to further help survivors of this epidemic.
