About the Practice

Associates in Mental Health is a dedicated behavioral health practice in Peoria, Illinois. We provide compassionate, evidence-based behavioral health services to individuals and families in our community. We are looking for a Front Desk Receptionist who helps to serve as a "face" and "voice" of our practice—someone who understands that for many of our patients, the first interaction with our office is the first step toward healing.

The Role

As a Front Desk Receptionist, you are a navigator for patients entering the behavioral health system. You will assist with the flow of the office, handle sensitive health information with the utmost discretion, and provide a calm, welcoming environment for patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Patient Welcome & Intake: Greet patients warmly, handle the check-in/check-out process, and assist with intake forms.
• Scheduling: Coordinate complex provider schedules using our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system; manage waitlists and appointment reminders.
• Communication: Handle high-volume phone calls with a focus on active listening and triaging urgent behavioral health inquiries to the appropriate clinical staff.
• Insurance & Billing: Verify insurance benefits for behavioral health services, collect co-pays, and explain billing cycles to patients.
• HIPAA Compliance: Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure all patient records are handled according to federal and state privacy laws.
• Environment Management: Maintain a calm, organized, and professional waiting area conducive to a therapeutic environment.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma required; Associate’s degree or Medical Office Assistant certification is a plus.
• Soft Skills: Exceptional emotional intelligence, patience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure or when dealing with patients in crisis.
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with office equipment and technology, and proficiency in using standard office software.
