Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide Compassionate Support: Utilize personal experiences to offer empathetic guidance and support tailored to the needs of pregnant and postpartum women.
- Build Trusting Relationships: Develop and maintain strong, trusting relationships with participants, creating a supportive environment for open communication and recovery.
- Offer Advocacy and Resources: Help clients access essential resources, including prenatal and postnatal care, substance use treatment, and parenting support. Advocate for their needs within healthcare and social services systems.
- Complete Needs Assessment: Provide a Needs Assessment tailored to the needs of each participant.
- Promote Long-Term Recovery: Assist clients in creating and following personalized recovery plans, setting and achieving recovery goals, and staying motivated throughout their journey.
- Facilitate Education and Support: Support clients in understanding and managing their health and wellbeing.
- Monitor and Document Progress: Track clients’ progress, offer feedback and encouragement, and address any barriers to their recovery and overall wellbeing.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Lived Experience: Personal experience with substance uses disorders, particularly during pregnancy or the postpartum period, is essential. Must share information on how they overcome addiction.
- Must be comfortable: With present and/or past substance use challenges being known by colleagues and the people served.
- Life Experiences: Be able to share life experiences in a way that promotes hope and supports the participant in their journey towards recovery.
- Empathy and Compassion: Strong ability to offer supportive and motivational guidance to women facing substance use challenges.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and relationship-building skills to connect effectively with clients and provide meaningful support.
- Knowledge of Resources: Familiarity with resources relevant to pregnant and postpartum women, including healthcare, substance use treatment, and parenting support.
- Commitment to Recovery: A genuine commitment to assisting clients in achieving and maintaining long-term recovery while addressing their specific needs.
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CRSS) and/or Work Towards Certification
EXPERIENCE:
Must have lived experience and self-identify as someone in remission from an opiate use disorder or substance use disorder.
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE:
- Work towards Certification as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)
- Must have valid Driver's License
Benefit Summary:
All full-time employees are eligible for insurance on the first of the month after 30 days of employment. Benefits include medical, dental and 401K participation. We also offer an accrual of 4 weeks of paid time off per year. There is an annual discretionary bonus given as well after completing 1 year of service.

Remedies provides critical and often times lifesaving services to adults struggling with addiction and to victims of domestic violence and human trafficking and their children or vulnerable family members. Remedies works to end the cycle of abuse, exploitation and addiction through education, support, and community involvement.
We provide the only domestic violence shelter in Winnebago and Boone counties. Each year Remedies provides a variety of domestic violence program services to approximately 2,000 adult and child survivors of domestic violence, approximately 25% of which are children. Remedies substance abuse programs serve an additional 2,000 adults each year. We provide a safe, supportive environment and critical, client-centered services designed to promote the healing of individuals and families. With the recent launch of our human trafficking program, Remedies will be able to further help survivors of this epidemic.
