The DuPage County Health Department is excited to announce an opening within our Crisis Follow Up Program as a Crisis Services Counselor – Post Crisis Response Team. Counselors in the Crisis Follow Up program work with clients who are coming from a crisis point of care and linking with ongoing services. Our evolving and dynamic treatment approaches aim to provide our clients with intensive, short-term interventions and supports, immediately after a crisis.  Our Crisis Follow Up program provides treatment to individuals with serious mental illness after the client has had contact with a crisis point of care (hospitalization, crisis respite, mobile crisis response). This specific position works closely with two local law enforcement agencies to provide support and linkage after police contact in which a mental health or substance use concern was noted.

Opening Soon: The Crisis Recovery Center

The Crisis Recovery Center (CRC) is the critical next step in DuPage County Health Department’s decades-long journey to build the infrastructure needed to support a best-in-class behavioral health system and ensures all DuPage County residents will have“someone to call, someone to respond, and somewhere to go” when experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. The CRC will help residents de-escalate, stabilize, and connect to community resources catered to their individual mental health and substance use treatment needs. The building design and operations will ensure individuals and their families feel welcome, respected, and secure throughout every step of their care. The CRC serves as an alternative to hospital emergency departments and simplifies access to crisis care for all individuals, families, and first responders. Job Details
 Full-time Day Shift Position

The position is based in Wheaton, although will travel to different law enforcement agencies in DuPage County. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, although this team may offer flexibility with hours when this meets program needs.

Education Requirements and Salary Ranges
 - Bachelor's degree candidates will be considered; relevant experience a plus! Depending on experience, the salary range for this position is as follows:

- Bachelor's degreed candidates: $45,997 to $53,967

- Master's degreed candidates:  $51,075 to $65,000
- Clinical Licensed candidates:  $59,240 to $69,940

Responsibilities

As a Crisis Services Counselor, you will:
- Utilize evidence-based practices to provide outpatient psychotherapy and counseling to individuals following an episode in a crisis point of care. 
- Manage a client caseload and maintain regular contact with clients, supporting needs while working to support transition to ongoing care. 
- Provide crisis interventions as needed. 
- Provide referrals to community resources and monitor service delivery across providers in order to promote successful whole health treatment outcomes.
- Collaborate in team meetings to support client progress.
- Collaborate with co-workers to assure necessary resource linkage to service.
- Maintain accurate and compliant documentation and clinical records.
- Meet established productivity standards.
- Perform concurrent documentation.
- Demonstrate independent judgment and discretion in making position related decisions.
- Participate in emergency activities as assigned.
- Maintain required training, licensure and/or certification.
- Maintain confidentiality of privileged information and adheres to client privacy laws.
- Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of other ethnic groups and cultures.
- Be available to respond to clients and/or customers, either in person or over the phone, during assigned business hours
- Maintain a schedule that allows for flexibility, to include days and evenings and the ability to provide services at various locations within DuPage County, in order to meet the needs of clients.

Requirements

- Completion of a master’s degree in psychology, Social Work or related field, and two years of behavioral health experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

- The preferred candidate is someone who instills hope and believes that recovery is possible, who is energetic and is excited about creating a welcome and inclusive environment for our clients, who demonstrates a passion working with people who have a severe mental illness.
